It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you in Almaty, in the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the 15th FINA Men’s Water Polo World Cup to be held from August 19–24, 2014.

The World Cup, organised every four years, brings the best teams in our sport to compete in a top-notch, six-day event, which, along with FINA’s strategy, contributes to the development and promotion of water polo worldwide.

For this edition, the eight teams taking part in the competition are: Australia, Croatia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Serbia, South Africa and USA.

Water Polo is the oldest Olympic team sport and its main characteristics combine team spirit and individual quest for improvement. This philosophy will be present during this competition and the participating players will be an example of fair-play for the youth and all the fans of this sport in the five continents.

I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Swimming Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Organising Committee and the local authorities for their hospitality and support. Their professionalism, competence and enthusiasm will ensure that players, fans and officials keep vivid memories from this World Cup edition.

Also, I would like to thank all the Sponsors, media and spectators for their continuous devotion and help. Their action is certainly part of the success of this 15th FINA Men’s Water Polo World Cup.

FINA MEN’S WATER POLO WORLD CUP 2014 is a unique opportunity to compete with the best national teams of the world. The teams, which set pace in the modern water polo. This is also an evidence of attention and extensive support to the sport extended by the head of the state Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Continuing the glorious traditions of Kazakhstan athletes’ triumph in international tournaments I wish the national water polo team of the Republic of Kazakhstan to perform in this tournament commendably and fill in another page of the chronicles of the great victories of Independent Kazakhstan.

Dear participants of the competition!

On behalf of Almaty city residents I would like to welcome you in our hospitable city. It is a great honor for us to host events of such level.

The right to host Men’s Water Polo World Cup was given to Almaty, as a result of successful organization of the FINA Men’s Water Polo Super Final, which was held in Almaty in 2012. The organization of this competition was recognized by the International Swimming Federation as one of the best over the entire history of this sport.

Today Almaty is one of the world centers of sports. In recent years, the city hosted the most prestigious international competitions. Almaty hosted the 7th Asian Winter Games, the Kazakhstan’s first professional cycling race «Tour of Almaty», AIBA World Boxing Championship, and world cups in different sports.

In 2017 Almaty will become the capital of the 28th Winter Universiade. Along with this, the city has applied for the right to host the winter Olympic Games in 2022.

There is no doubt that the Water Polo World Cup will serve to further promotion of this sport.

These days we are waiting for a fair, beautiful competition, brilliant victories and high sports achievements.

Welcome to Kazakhstan! We are delighted to welcome the strongest men’s teams at the FINA Water Polo World Cup 2014. It is encouraging that the International Swimming Federation entrusted holding such a representative tournament in Kazakhstan after successful holding of World Men’s Water Polo League Super Final FINA 2012 in Almaty. Certainly, this has become possible thanks to the personal support for the development of sports provided by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

We are confident that the FINA World Cup 2014 will not only bring together our countries and peoples, but also serve the further development of water polo in Kazakhstan.
