Greeting's

It is my great pleasure to welcome all the participating teams to the 18th edition of the FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships (20 & under), organised in Almaty (KAZ) from September 4–12, 2015.

Since 2011, FINA organises World Junior/Youth Water Polo Championships for two age groups: 20 & under and 18 & under. The new competition format offers a unique opportunity for the young water polo players to show their talent at international level. To stage competition for young athletes is important to FINA, as we strive to inspire the fresh water polo generation with the values of fair play and the Olympic spirit.

Almaty will welcome 20 men’s teams, coming from internationally-recognised and developing nations in the sport, with the following composition: the host country, 2 from Africa, 4 from the Americas, 4 from Asia, 8 from Europe and 1 from Oceania.

Thanks to a very careful organisation, all the conditions are met for a great competition, in which our athletes will certainly feel at home. The enthusiasm of the spectators in Almaty and the coverage of the media are also powerful vehicles for the promotion of the championships and of water polo.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Swimming Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Organising Committee, the local authorities, and all the sponsors and partners for their hard work and devotion. I am sure that players and audience alike will keep vivid memories from the 18th edition of the FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships (20 & under).

I wish the teams participating in these Championships all the luck and the best to win.

Dr. Julio C. Maglione

The right to host the 18th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships 2015 has been granted to the city of Almaty as a result of successful hosting the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Super Final 2012 and the FINA Men’s Water Polo World Cup 2014.

Almaty is a city that is rapidly developing its sports infrastructure. Over the past few years, it has hosted such large international competitions as the 7th Asian Winter Games, international cycling race «Tour of Almaty», World Boxing and World Weightlifting Championships. Dear Friends,

I’m very glad to welcome in Kazakhstan all the participants and guests of the 18TH FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships 2015.

Today, Kazakhstan is successfully progressing towards leading positions in the world community and is becoming one of the centers for large international, political, cultural and sports events.

Thanks to the wise and consistent policy of the Head of State Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, economic well-being, health of the population and development of physical culture and sports are major priorities.

Currently about 3 thousand Kazakhstan people are involved in water polo. This kind of sports is being developed in seven regions of Kazakhstan. From year to year, there are more sports organizations and people interested in water polo. Our men’s and women’s national water polo teams have become multiple champions and have a strong lead on the Asian Continent.

I’m sure that the 18th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships 2015 will make this kind of sport more popular in Kazakhstan, will strengthen and extend friendly sports relations between the countries-participants, as well as develop among the younger generation a high sense of responsibility and patriotism.

Special thanks to the Management of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) for its trust and this chance of holding such significant sports event in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

I wish all the participants and guests good health, interesting games and unforgettable impressions about the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Yours respectfully,

Arystanbek Mukhamediuly
Minister of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Dear Friends,

Today, we are hosting the 18th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships and I’m very glad to welcome all the sportsmen and fans of this spectacular and dynamic kind of sports. It is a great honor for us to be among those countries which have had the right to host these competitions. We picked up the torch from Hungary which hosted the previous World Junior Water Polo Championships 2013 in the city of Szombathely.

The geography of the countries and teams that will participate in the competitions is very wide. 20 national teams have arrived from different continents. All of them are strong and talented sportsmen who have passed qualifying competitions and have a fair chance.

The Swimming Federation of the Republic Kazakhstan has approached with special responsibility the organization of the championships. We have tried to make every participant feel comfortable in the city of Almaty and show his or her best possible results. We have carefully and thoroughly prepared all the sports facilities.

I have no doubt that these championships will become a significant milestone in the sports history of the city of Almaty and the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will, undoubtedly, affect the popularity of water polo and will be an additional incentive for Kazakhstan citizens to go in for sports. Recently, the city of Almaty has successfully hosted different sports events, and, in 2017, the World Winter Universiade will take place there.

We are looking for fair play and I encourage all sports fans to support the sports spirit of the competitions. After all, when there is a support of fans, any game is much more interesting and challenging!

I wish everyone good luck and best possible results.

President of Kazakhstan Water Polo Federation
Saken Mussaibekov
